I finally got my cobra's put on. The hold up was the Bridgestone Dueler HP's...took forever =( Anyway, when they were mounting them they tried it with my 3/16" spacers in the front as well as without them. The were pushing me to go without the spacers due to the pressure on the bearings. (I know the argument about the big tires etc...) They showed me how much they rubbed and it was only when the wheels were turned 98-100% either way. After seeing that and considering how little I drive with my wheels turned that much they had convinced me to go without the spacers. I'm going back to the shop monday or tuesday to pick up my old wheels/tires and they said they'd put the spacers on for me then if I didn't like it. What do you guys think? Is there a better reason for the spacers that I'm not seeing or was it just for that little bit of tire rub?

Also, does anybody have any helpful hints about cleaning/drying chrome wheels?

Thanks!

i dont think 3/16 spacers put that much pressure on the bearings. but if you can drive fine without them, and it doesnt rub. then just keep them off. i never turn my wheel all the way. turning the wheel all the way is bad for the power steering anyway.

if it aint broke, dont fix it. why use spacers if you dont need them.

what would we do without powersteering? :-) . turning the wheel 100% percent is pretty uncommon unless i am in a sticky situation where i need to get out fast

Congrats on the Cobras!

I dont know mucha bout the spacers or anything, but since they're chrome, go pick up a can of Eagle One Nevr-Dull. Thats right, its Nevr, not Never. It looks like cotton candy, its fluffy and tears off in pieces, and you rub it on the chrome real good and wipe right off with a dry cloth, sort of buff it off, it is absolutely awesome!! I used it on the chrome caps on the wheels of my X and it loogs great! And I put some on the old chrome rims of our 79 F250, the wheels are turning that milky color and its starting to rust, but I rubbed a good amount on there and it took that milky junk right off, and it even helped on the minor rust spots. You really need to get some, you wont be disappointed.

yeah, that stuff is amazing. when i was in the air force, we used that stuff on all chrome, brass, etc...
it wasn't eagle one, but it was the same thing.

What size tires did you put on?

i agree with leenjen, that 3/16" isn't going to hurt your bearings much. but, if you rarely turn your wheel fully, then you don't need the spacers. i live in la, so i'm constantly maneuvering through cramped lots and streets. i need as much mobility as possible, so i went with the 3/16" spacers.

Thanks for the advice. I'll pick some of that stuff up today and give it a try. As for my tires...I went with the 275/55-17. I should be getting some pics back today so maybe I'll have them up later on.

ive had chrome rims on my old explorer and personally i wouldnt use anything but soap and water on them. you really dont need anything else, so why risk something bad happeneing to your new chrome wheels?
