Cobras and Pricing

Ok, checking out www.gefracing.com and saw that original '95 Rs are $180 a wheel, and "Cobra R wheel '95- new style" is $140 a wheel. Any noticeable difference between these two wheels? What are most of you guys running?

ok guys, another favor..
how many of you are 4WD/AWD and running '95 17x9 Cobra R's without any problems (i know you're out there....cough, cough 98FordX24....:) ) 17x9 Cobras will fit on 4WD, right??

Ive got em on my 4wd with no problems other than rubbing when you turn, but there are things that can be done to fix that... I just havnt got up off my ass to find out if those steering limiters will work.

thanks...

Chrome, polished, silver.....
i know chrome is all shiny, etc- is polished similar to chrome? Is silver the bit duller/flatter like 98ford is running?

Mine are silver. Not sure what polished is. I think they are like mine just a lighter color, maybe a little more shiny.

polished is almost the same as chrome, but they are a b!tch to keep that way. go either silver or chrome... ive had polished wheels before and they are WAY too much work.

excellent...i figured it was silver that was what most everybody else had....
but now cobra money goes into repair of bent axle..boooo

how did you bend an axle?

went around a rather tight turn (cautiously i thought) and the rears lost traction and broke loose (stalling on getting new tires b/c thought pirellis might be on the way), started fish-tailing, eventually went into a 180 which planted the passengers side rear wheel squarely into a curb on the opposite side of the road. Completely cracked the rear wheel, bent the lip on the front one....didnt blow the tires though. And thus, the rear axle is bent with possible (though doubtful) rear diff. damage. No fun, no fun at all :(
basically some poor drivning and reaction on my part- overcorrection, etc. the subs sliding around in the back werent helping though...luckly it was on a one-way side road with no possibility of hitting other cars

Its tough to correct yourself if that happens. Most people dont have any experience with sliding around turns. I mess around in the snow all the time and I always lose control and over correct and stuff. Its hard to judge. That sucks tho.

Stann, another guy you might try (since you are around Atlanta) is a friend of mine - Rusty 770.968.3412. He is the parts manager at Spartan Lincoln Mercury in Morrow. I got my 95 R's from him. He also runs two websites:

FordPartsFast.com

MySportTrac.com

Tell him David gave you his number and you are looking for a set. I will be willing to bet he will beat Gene Evans in Union City (geracing.com). Also ask him how he likes the Michellin 255/60/17 I am running. I went through Goodyear (total junk) and BF CompIII HR4's(good set), but these are the best looking tire yet, best wear, and best ride yet...

CobraXP,
thank you for the contact, its most appreciated. Connections like this are usually the way to get decent prices on things :D .

I have also been looking for alternatives to the 275/55 scorpion zero, as it just pushes me over the price range in mind. I noticed that 275/55 HR17 Dunlops are only $86 a tire....- is there something wrong with Dunlop-haha? i know for car-sized tires they are a decent manufacturer, but around a $60 difference from the other manufacturers seems like too much... i guess i could check out different sizes as suggested by CobraXP, like 255/60s. any other ideas for sizes/manufacturers?

I'm also running 255/60's and I love em. Around $120 a tire.

Seems like my BF's were around $140 (?) a tire - don't really remember. I have not ran the Dunlops, and can't really remember any comments about them from anyone. The Michellins I run now were $125 a tire I think.

This pic isn't great, I'll have to get some better ones for you...

Front tire

picture is fine by me :D goodness, those are pretty rims...:cool:
those are the 255/60s, correct?
are your brake shields painted white? looks great

Thanks - yes, those are 255/60's. I had the rotors off one day doing a wheel pack and bearing job - decided the wheels and calipers needed a little color. Gives it a little different look anyway...

Cobra... what does it say on the wheel next to your valve stem? It doesnt say anything on mine.

I went out and took a couple of pics real quick. There are symbols on one side of the stem, and 620KG on the other...
