Just a follow-up post to my original post Original Post
Aside from the code, I was getting some hesitation on acceleration, and some erratic idling. Mileage didn't seem too bad, but the performance wasn't that of a V-8.

! The problem was the DPFE without question. Add that to your stats.
I picked one up from Ford after their emissions guy said don't bother with the aftermarket DPFEs. I don't know if that's proven advice, or just an allegiance to Ford. It's not much more @ Ford ($65.16) than at Advance or Autozone, so it's worth the insurance.
It's clearly been redesigned from the unit in my '99 5.0. The new one is plastic with the outlets parallel to the mount instead of one forward & one back.
It's thinner, lighter, and it's black plastic instead of cast aluminum. Seems cheaper, but it's not what's on the outside that counts, in this case. Still seems unserviceable....riveted. It's right out there on the 5.0, but getting a wrench on the little bolts is a pain. Takes a shortie 1/4" extension and/or a deep socket.
Anyway, the parts guy @ Ford told me that they had 27 on the shelves! And this is not a huge dealership at all. That's a sign of something. I'm guessing that the DPFE's are failing at a pretty high rate.
Thanks to those of you who posted suggestions to my original post, and Morrisey0, thanks for the confidence that sent me out to buy this thing. You were right on.
