117,000 miles
I am 56 years old and know little-to-nothing about vehicles and don't know what to do.
Service Engine Light issue...the light came on 11/28/Monday then went out for 2 days after I put in a bottle of Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment. (Of course I don't know if the Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment had anything to do with it.)
Anyway, after it came back on last Wednesday AutoZone's code reader thing came up with the same code two days in a row:
The code was P0506. The printout they gave me said:
DEFINITION:
IAC circuit condition or idle speed higher/lower than expected.
EXPLANATION:
The ECM has detected that the IAC counts are higher or lower than expected. The engine speed is not in its expected range.
PROBABLE CAUSE:
(1) vacuum leak on engine or
(2) dirty throttle body, or
(3) IAC motor defective, or
(4) poor electrical connection to the IAC valve.
Should I pay a dealer $90 to put it on their computer? Is there some simple and/or cheap remedy I could try first?
By the way, this same thing happened last year. A dealer was going to "fix it" for $800. Instead, I put a bottle of Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment in it and the light went out and remained out until a few days ago. Again, I don't know if the Lucas had anything to do with it.
The only other issue with the Explorer in 2011 is that I had to replace the transmission half-case (or whatever it's called) because it had a leak. (Could this have something to do with it?)
I just don't have a of money to waste on a remedy.
I need solid advice. Thank you very much!
