Code P0733

I have a 1999 Explorer Sport, 4.0 Automatic, 4WD, 5R55E, 70000miles. Starting shifting hard about a month ago between 2nd and 3rd. Also a few days ago I was taking off at a light and the truck didnt want to go. It reved up to about 3500rpm and I let off the gas and then it kicked into gear.

So I just took it to a tranny shop by my house to get the correct codes since the scanner at Autozone couldnt pull any. Only got two codes, one I didnt right down, something with the AC, and the other was P0733. Tranny man told me it was "slipping code 3rd gear ratio". He also mentioned something about replacing the "electronics". In the end he said it needed a "soft part rebuild for $1800", which im sure would turn into $2500 or so by the time he is done. Considering the guy standing at the counter when i walked in was told "good news-your car will be done by 5, bad news- its gonna be $1500 because I had to replace some synchros". $400 more than the gentleman was quoted.

Can anyone shed some light on this code for me, and this tranny shop. I have already ordered the Ford Kit, Sep plate, Syl bracket, and new EPC from Fast Parts. I still plan on doing it this weekend if the parts arrive in time. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Very ,very common problem. Replace the valve body seperator plate, service kit, and EPC solenoid. Problem solved.
