Code Probs

My truck was acting up today a few times as if it was the fuel pump again.. But it was acting a little different. This time it threw codes for me any idea's on what they mean?
P0300
P0301
P0302
P1000

I cleared them 2x and then never had a prob with it again. Maybe my junk yard replacement fuel pump is no good is all I was thinking?

The first 3 codes are all misfire codes. The first one P0300 is a general misfire code; P0301 is Cyl 1 misfire, P0302 is Cyl 2 misfire.

From the PCED:

DTC P1000 indicates that all of the OBD II monitors have not yet been successfully tested.

so why a misfire then? I thought PCM controlled firing?

Yes, the PCM sends the signal to the coil pack to fire each spark plug, but there are several reasons that you can get a misfire.

well may as well start from the cheapest thing and go from there.. I am thinking CMP since I have had probs with them on many ford vehicles.

I think I would check Fuel Pressure first because that is cheapest assuming that you have access to a FP gauge.

Fuel pumps do fail and they do wear out. If you replaced the original fuel pump with another used pump, the replacement might be worn out too. However, it could also be a restriction in the fuel line (e.g. clogged filter) or something else altogether. I was just suggesting testing fuel pressure since you had some reason to suspect that it could be low, and its cheaper to test components than it is to replace components. I'm always in favor of testing whenever possible.

since you've already replaced the FPR, and are on fuel pump #3, I would definitely start with checking fuel pressure at the rail if you have the tools available. And you said you already replaced the fuel filter, right?

Are these the same codes you received with your original fuel pump?
and same codes you got with the "custom" pump you got off eBay?

I got a lean bank 1 & 2 codes, when the "custom" fuel pump crapped out. But no codes at all when the factory fuel pump went. I will go and get a fuel pressure guage for this truck now after all this hassle just so i can see all the time.

These codes were only thrown when I was towing my 2 place quad trailer and not at all since. Any chance of a coincidence? Maybe she does not want me to tow with her anymore?

I was getting a slight misfire once when towing my trailer. It wasn't enough to set a code, but I could feel it, especially climbing hills. I verified it was a misfire by monitoring the misfire detection monitor with my scan tool. It turned out to be a problem with the coil pack; the resistance was too high on the secondary side.

You mean the Accel coil pack? You don't have a distributor. The PCM fires the coils in the coil pack directly.

I don't know if the Accel coil pack is any better or worse than the stock one. I would test the one you have looking to see if the resistance on the secondary side is below 11,000 ohms. That was the problem with mine - the resistance was > 12k ohms. A new coil pack costs about $120, so you don't want to replace it unless you are fairly sure that is the problem. Another thing to test would be the ignition wires - you can test the resistance of these too.

If you check the link I posted above, it is a short explanation of how to test the secondary side (High Voltage side) of the coil pack. The coil pack is actually 3 coils siamesed together; 1 coil fires both cyl 1 and cyl 5 at the same time, 1 coil fires cyl 2 & 4, 1 fires 3 & 6.

There is also a procedure in the Haynes manual for the Explorer if you have it.
