Hi Guys,
I've got a 95 Eddie Bauer Explorer 4.0 liter engine. I was interested in buying a relatively inexpensive code reader for it. I was looking at the (Innova) Equus 3145. It says it is for the EEC-IV Fords through 1995. I was interested in the lcd readout rather than having to count clicks or light flashes. I took a look at the back and it says it is good for 95 Fords except for 3.0 and 4.0 Explorers, Rangers and Villagers. The car has what looks like a standard EEC-IV plug and I can't find an OBD-II plug anywhere. The 95 Ford Truck CD doesn't mention anything weird about the 95 although I've read Ford was doing a change over to OBD-II about that time. Can anyone tell me if or why the 3145 won't work on my 95 or if any of you have tried it?
Thanks,
Dick

I have this model code reader. It's pretty good for the price. They have dropped in price substantially since I bought mine. It's fine for reading codes on older vehicles. I think it says that it can't work on a 95 because it was a transition year. They discontinued EEC-IV (OBD-I), and started using EEC-V (OBD-II) in mid 95. You could use it if you have EEC-IV in your truck. Check this link: http://www.amazon.com/Equus-3145-Fo...03?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1194837369&sr=1-6

Thanks for your reply. I've got the EEC-IV plug in the car. I've read that rather than jumpering the single line to the battery negative instead of the reader can get around some grounding inadequacies. I ve got an O'Reilleys five minutes from the house and they have it in stock for about $30 which cuts out shipping costs and time.

I have the exact same one as BrooklynBay. I paid $40.00 for it at Kragens.
