If I was looking for a code reader for my 1992 Ford Explorer XL 4x4.....which one do I need to get? Thanks.:D

For OBD I, if your not gonna go all out and buy a full functioned scan tool, save your money and just use an analog voltmeter. The procedure to check the codes is in the Haynes manual as well as somewhere on this site.

Jason 25 is right, you can use a voltmeter, but for $30 at Autozone
Actron OBD I Code Reader
a basic code reader isn't a bad thing to have if you plan on keeping your Exp. for a while.
Although you have to decipher the 'flashes' or 'beeps' like you would with the 'sweeps' of the voltmeter, it's not too tough and the manual is pretty comprehensive.
It's more convenient than a VM, since you don't have to hook up the wiring like with a voltmeter, and it has an audible beep setting that allows you to hear the beeps when you're in the car or not looking directly at the unit.
I used a crappy little tape recorder & set it next to the reader and recorded the beeps when they came up. I could then go inside, play back the tape and write down the beeps & the pauses, and get my codes. By doing this, you can avoid missing codes, their specific pauses and having to run the diagnostics over again.
