Coil for '04 V6?

How often do you replace the coil on the V6 Xs. I have an '04 K-flex V6 I bought used and have been replacing small parts along and along. Can anyone also tell me what brands of coil are high quality for replacement? Thanks for any help. BTW, the truck runs fine. I'm just doing preventative maintenance.

Little story. Pack rat built nest under my hood, chewed through a plug wire near the coil, spark caught insulation on fire, part of top of coil caught fire, wire boots were on fire, intake manifold (plastic) scorched, we figgered the draft from the fan kept flames smothered enough to save the whole vehicle going up.

New plug wires were a must, the old coil worked fine, so I left it alone.

Preventive maintenance sometimes causes new problems to pop up.

Thanks. Yeah, I know tweaking can be counter productive at times. The truck does run fine. I'm always trying to keep it as bullet proof as I can. So far so good. Runs like a top. I just need a little air conditioning recharge right now. I'm used to the heat in old SC but the A/C always feels good.

Stock coil shouldn't need replacing for a long, long time unless you've got ignition problems.

If you do replace it you might as well upgrade and put in a screamin demon coil pack.
