coil spacers

I have to ask again. I have a 93 XLT. I want to add a once inch spacer to the front coils. Do they go on top or below the spring? are they safe? What types are out there? my locate "pep boys" have these generic coil spring spacers rings, but I don't know if they would fit. Do I need a spring compressor to install and finally what would the spacers do to my alignment? Also, what is this weld in spring guard a have read about?

Try a search for "coil spring spacers". You'll get all the info needed.
In short, anything SOLID, 1" thick, about 3" round. It goes on the bottom. You'll need an alignment.
