Coil Spring Questions!

Guys just have a few questions here as searching for it isn't to direct!

I just installed a set of new superlift 4" coil springs in the front of the explorer, how long is it gonna take for the springs to settle? Do I have to drive it to get it to settle? How much are they gonna settle down from where they are now? And last if I'm not gonna do anymore off roading do I need to do the bumpstop extention thing? Thanx in advance!!!

In most applications and lifts I have done in my time, which is a lot, I usually see maybe a 1" to 1.25" settling. And you do need to drive it so that the springs can cycle as I call it. The natural bounce effect causes the springs to settle from weight distribution. And usually you will notice the settlement within 500-1000 miles in most cases.

On your bump stops, it is up to you, if you are going to experience spring travel and how much you think you will experience. If you are not going to be doing any off road, then the bump stops will not benefit you, unless you are trying to extremely limit your travel from ever happening. So I would leave them out if you are done with 4x4ing. Because you will not be putting yourself into a situation that would require limitations.

Good info and thanx!!!! So if thats all to worry about I can get this much needed alignment done and then some time down the road will eventually time to get the alignment done again. See I have other cars and the explorer now is the gas guzzler of them all so 500 miles might not happen for several months....just needed to know.

Another probelm I have now is the alignment, I need to adjust it temporary so I could get it to the alignment shop. The alignment shop is 3-4 miles away and my tires go toe in very bad where the outter edges of my tires start to smear, can anybody help me of a temporary adjustment?

Loosen the tie rods and bring the toe back out till it looks straight. If it is drivable, I can not see how a few miles will kill the tires as long as you take it easy.

So I called up 4wheelparts today to get an estimate on a front end alignment and they said $270.00 and then after hanging the phone up in their face I called up the most well known reputable shop in town and they told me $58.00, please beware of 4wheelparts labor lates fellas.
