Do you have to hook up those two hoses on the back of the factory air box if you use a cone filter kit? What are they for? thanks for the help

Nah they don't. One is a vaccum hose and the other is connected to the heat riser system or something like that. The vacuum line gets plugged up with a screw or something like that and the other one is non-functional once you remove the air box.

GOOD NEWS!!

Gary from ifab.net emailed me today with this:
Dead Link Removed
He is currently producing these intakes for our Explorers and Rangers with the 4.0 V6. They can either be used with the stock air box or the KKM kit if you already have it but he also sells the full intake kit as well. For right now the pipe is $100.00 but I am starting a group purchase for them if anyone is interested.

What would the price be for the group purchase? Also would we be able to get the whole intake kit or just the pipe? thanks

brian

Just let us know the group buy price for the intake pipe
I buy one.

:p

I am gettin prices on just the pipe and the whole kit, I just have to wait for him to email me back.

how would you put that tube(oil tube thingamajig) in the 2" to 3" tube? just drill a hole?

I would just followed limitedex's instructions and made my own intake pipe , i just finished mine the clear coat is drying as i type this....i will have pictures later this weekend. i'll show you guys what a little help (from limitedex) and, about 17 dollars in pvc materials, and 12 dollars in high temp paint can do.

later
ryan

I got an email from Gary the other day and he said that we can get 15% off the listed price on his site. Just mention you are from the forum and that you want in on the group purchase. I would also definitly like to know how to make your own pipe too.

WOW..talk about change in tune. ASK HIM...why it went from 30% to 15%.

I don't really feel like emailing him again because I am pretty pissed off because these prices are double what he estimated. Do you know why it dropped by any chance?

I don't know...I stopped dealing with him cause things started getting a little fishy. He couldn't tell me if we had a large order...if he could fulfill. And he wasn't very cooperative when asked if he could make them for more years of X's than that.

$$$$

Even with the discount i dont think that the results will be worth the price. Atleast his website has some pictures for me to look at when i make my own.

I think limitedex has the right idea. looks good man.

limitedex, do you think that the cool tape will work better than heat resistant paint? or maybe paint and then the tape on top? does it really matter? thanks for the info.

4Wheelin, thanks for looking into the group purchase.

I really thought it was going to be a lot lower than that  but o well, now its there if anyone wants to spend the money on it.

I am glad that I helped a few of you guys out! I have to give special thanks to Home Depot and all those that supported.........
Okay old news.
Dirtyneck, I got the Cool Tape idea from another member of this board, but I do not recall who. I would think that the more heat shielded the tube is the better! I think your idea of the paint, then the tape would be functional. The tape kind of gives the tube a "chrome" look to it, when it is not dirty like mine though.
Elite, cannot wait to see the pics! Oh and if anyone is looking for miscellaneous stuff for their Ex's, I have a few items in the For Sale column.

don't know if it has been mentioned or not!!

well i called K&N a while back asking about the 2nd generation FIPK kit for the 4.0L OHV explorers 95 and up. and they said that it would be completed around last december. i called them last october. they quoted about $230.00 form them but it would be cheaper to get them through a dealer. this kit is for the OHV engines where the intake runs along the radiator shroud down to the front passenger side. i figure if i am going to spend almost $200.00 on a custom intake pipe kit, then why not go through K&N. they have been the frontman for air filters for years. just my $.02
