I have a 96 xlt and i want pics of ways to get a cold air intake/airbox. i have heard talk of this before on other threads, but nothing specifically for the 96 explorers. any 96'ers should speak up.

I have no idea what your airbox or airbox location looks like, but I hope that my idea on my '97 Mountaineer V8 can spark some ingenuity and creativity. My conical airbox is located on the front passenger side behind the headlamp. Dead Link Removed

I have known some mustang people who have tried similar ideas as I have described and pictured in the above link. Getting lots of cold air is definitely better than lots of air, which you smartly desire.

If you can describe your airbox and your location, others might be able to give input as well. I wouldn't do the "swiss cheese" airbox as you would end up getting lots of warm air as well.

Thank you for the information.

I difinitely will try that on my 96 4.0 once I get time, just by installing a K&N drop in and removal of a bird nest (or rat nest) under the hood, I impoved my gas mileage from 13 to 16, I also experience power increase as well.
