Hey Guys,

Does anyone make a cold air intake for a 04 explorer with a 4.0 ? K&N lists one for an 04 sport trac but not an XLT with the 4.0

Surely someone out there has done this, I await your reply.

Thanks, KASWAN:us:

The stock intake is pretty much already a "cold air intake"...if you hook up a scanner and drive around you can see that it does a good job of keeping the underhood heat out. However, the airflow can be improved for under 100 bucks worth of parts (K&n panel filter + Spectre intake parts)

Or if you don't want to modify your airbox and want a really good cone filter and adapter, look here:

nice, I never thought of drilling holes into the box. I've got to try that myself, i also like the idea of changing the tubing, what exactly is that for? Is it just for looks or or more of something like shortening the distance the air has to travel to get to the throttle body?

I think the idea is to replace the ribbed tubing that the stock intake has with something smooth that will offer less resistance to the flow of air. The sizes between the two are very close if not the same so I don't know how much of a difference it makes in power you can feel. Apparently it does help in the gas mileage department though.
