Hello All. I just finished installing a cold air intake on my 98 explorer (sohc) and now it wants to die when I come to a stop, then accelerate slowly. Also wants to die out around 2k rpm. Had no problems previously. Any suggestions?

Could be oil in the MAF or the harness going to it not plugged in all the way. Make sure your hose clamps are tight enough.

exhaust

my opinion on exhaust is just get what ever yoiu can get the best deal on exhaust systems today are so similar as far as quality and performance just get the cehapest on and move on to funner mods like forced in###tion :)

Still no dice

Just like the other post I saw on this topic, I put everything back to stock and all works great. What do you have to do to get the cold air intake to function propperly? I cleaned the maf and tried it again before reverting and it made no difference. It is almost like it is interfering with the tps. I noticed considerable lag, and impropper shift timing.

You sure it's all sealed up? I had issues with a MAC intake on my old '00 w/ SOHC. Similar issues to yours. Turned out I didn't have it clamped properly at the TB. Granted, I'm a horrible mechanic.

Doesn't the '98 have a separate sensor that has to be included in the intake setup? I seem to recall that you need to include that sensor but drilling a hole in the tube (of there wasn't one) and inserting the OEM sensor, sealed with a grommet. I can't remember which sensor it was since my '00 didn't have it, but I think the '98 does have it.

I put in a K&N intake the other day and had to drill a hole in the intake tube for the air temperature sensor. Make sure the hoses are in the correct places. I almost messed that up.
