IMO... dont remove your airbox for just a filter element... you could actually " hurt " your X... it would just throw the engine off, and possibly not use the air as it should...

also, by using an open filter like you stated... your running the risk of sucking water into your engine... thats bad lol

there arent many choices for the 04' 05' INTAKES, thats why your search is difficult...

hope this helps in anyway !!!

wow i did not know that .. well
do you think i shuld get the one that comes with a box around ..
like some i have seen ..
i really hope i find one . it has been a hard serch
if nothing comes i gues i will be getting something eals,

i know VOLANT makes a great enclosed intake that still sounds really good...

what brands have you come across that makes an intake for your model ??

i have been only able to find. K&n filters. i am going to take a look at the volant :)

What size engine? There are no intakes made for a 04+ 4.0L and very few for the 4.6L. If you have the 4.6L, I would go for the Volant for sure.

see i think
i will not be able to put a cold air intake ...
because the volant only has up to 03 explorers
and i just notice that the K&n ones are only for v8's explorers
i havent been able to find nothing so far i looked and nothing
i keep hitting dead ends

check out

KKM like chris suggests... he has an 05

Only thing is, that's not an "intake", it's just a filter. Still better than stock yes, but not as good as an intake kit with replacement intake tube.

dog. i know thats the thing i have only seen replacement filter with
the masflow sensor to go on the stock tube .. but i am looking for the hole kit
and havent found none i think theres no other choice than sticking with that one :( i really dont want to tou.. lol

Yep, i wouldnt bother with a CAI for horsepower...they do very little, and cost too much.

I actually had problems running a K&N air filter on my mustang.
The engine would bog down and always want to stall, and had horrible Idle problems, etc.
I put a Stock air filter on, and BAM it ran PERFECT, and instantly idled very nicely.
I put the K&N filter back on, and the car nearly friggin stalled on me.
Then i put a new stock filter on, and the idle jumped right back up and level and ran super clean.

I was running Without a Filter Housing by the way......

Once i found a Housing piece from the junkyard, i installed it, and the car ran even BETTER.....

I couldnt believe something small as an Air Filter could cause engine problems!
Im Always going to use stock replacements......never aftermarket BS ones.
