I can't believe I put up with the cold start problem, and the chain rattle problem for three winters. I finally went to the Ford parts counter and bought the kit for TSB 00M12. It only cost $40 bucks and took about 3 hours to install. If you are haveing the same cold start problem with your SOHC, and are no longer covered by the recall, this kit should be installed. It was not too bad, and did not require any special tools. Before you start make sure you have a #30 torqx socket head, and a good size deep well socket, (I think it was a 1-1/16"). The guy at my Ford counter printed the procedure for me. The old intake gaskets were rock hard. The new ones were like rubber. Make sure you clean the maniford mating surfaces very good, and don't get any crap down the intake. Everything went together with no real problem, if you take your time. I was so happy to have the thing start properly in cold weather, I could have kicked myself for not doing it sooner.

Which cold start problem were you having?

I'm assuming you did the intake gasket replacement but what does that have to do with the timing chain rattle?

I can see it correcting a starting issue but not timing chain rattle... maybe if you replaced the tensioners and guides while you were at it..

the TSB 00M12 kit comes with the timing chain tensioner replacement. thats why the rattle is now gone
