Cold Start Rough Idle

On cold starts i have an engine that surges then almost dies etc. for three or four times then once engine warms a bit this stops. Any ideas?? This is a 2000 explorer with 4.0 engine. 66,000 miles.

I had that problem once before and i think that i took off my iac vavle and cleaned it. That schould help it.

If it is not the IAC, if you have the SOHC 4.0 it could be bad intake manifold O-rings. There is an extended warranty program for them. Search for owner notification programs 00M12 and 01M01.

Also check to see that you TPS connector is making a good enough conntact with the prongs on the TPS. I noticed that I had a similar problem after I tested the TPS and found out that the ohm meter test leads spread out the connector fittings and it wasnt getting a goood contact to the sensor.
