I know, I know what you will all think. Its an 0m112 or bad o-ring fix. But I don't think so. Here are the symptoms. This usually only happens about once a week. The temp around here in Eastern Idaho is usually anywhere from 0-30 overnight, which it has been for the last 3 weeks. When I start my 2000 Explorer (4.0L SOHC, 59,300 miles, regularly maintained) the rpms go up to about 500 then waver between 500 and 100rpm for about 2-3 seconds then it will go up to about 1600 and level at about 1500 and continue to drop within normal range in about 2-3 seconds after, overall taking anywhere from 5-6 seconds.
This doesn't sound like the problem everyone has with bad o-rings in the upper and lower intake. I would like to try and fix whatever it is, if it is something, before things can get worse. I don't know maybe I am just reading to far into it. I forgot to mention if I give it a bit of gas right after start up it will return to normal faster, suggesting something with the fuel system? Maybe it is nothing and is just not getting fuel with a bad pump or clogged filter.
In the three weeks I have owned it it has happened four times and not on the coldest nights.
