Cold Weather Tranns Problem

First off I want to say Hi all fellow X owners.

My problem started ever since it started to get pretty cold here in MD. When I first start the x it seems like it is starting rough.( like a big rig) I dont know how else to explain it.

Also my trany acting up. When i start it and drive it, it seems like it is missing a gear and revs up for a few seconds. after it warms up it does not do it. Any ideas would be great. Fluid is fine and clean.

My ride. 2001 explorer sport. 4.0 sohc. auto trans. 4x2.

you need to let the truck warm up that way all the fluids heat up and start working properly. i bet it gets really cold there to so you definetly need to let it warm up and get those fluids circulated... one thing i've heard to help the transmittion warm up quicker is to put it in nuetral and wait a little bit.

No that's too easy. Something is not right. My 92 Ex starts fine at near zero F (other than taking a little longer to crank). Give us more info. Sounds like some sensor is out of whack. (wish you could have a scanner hooked up to it and see). Remember engine sensors are also used by the transmission.... so if one is out of whack it COULD affect the transmission operation too.

I really dont know how else to describe it...
Now having a scanner hooked wont read any codes w/o a cel, will it?

I had posted this elsewhere, but....also check the battery terminals and if necessary clean them.

Hi,

I have a similar problem which only happens in the colder weather (around 30-40 degrees farenheit here in BC Canada) If I park in the garage it does not happen. From a cold start outside I put into drive and leave pretty well straight away. Go to the end of the street and stop/start OK then at the next corner I stop, pause and accellerate except that we don't move. I hear the engine revs increase, after a second or two there is a dull thud and away we go. ( the size of the thud depends on the rpm) once the vehicle is warmed up it will turn off/on without further problems.

I have recently had the transmission serviced and read somewhere on another forum that the o rings may be a problem or if the new filter is not installed properly.

Can anyone expand on this? I don't want to take it to a transmission shop if the problem was caused by the people who serviced the transmission.
