i have a 92 eddie bauer and it looks like the side view mirrors have a hinge so they can collapse, but when i push really hard on them they dont budge. do i have the collapsable mirrors like later models do? or am i just gonna break them trying to bend them when theyre not supposed to move?

My '94 mirrors collapse, but take some hard pushing to get them there.

jgilbs, I didn't know mine folded back until they were up against the side of a mountain. My '94 has mirrors that fold back but takes a lot of force.

see, my bro has a 94 and his collapse pretty easy, so maybe they started them in 94?

Anybody with a '92??? Anybody?

jgilbs, I had tried to get them to fold in a few times but I was scared I was going to break them. When I slipped into a washout, I slowly had to creep forward (couldn't back up) and slowly watched my mirror waiting for it to snap off. Luckily it folded in. Just trying to point out that it took a lot of force to get it to fold in.

Any time you have a question; check your owners manual. Check under the side mirrors. Your owners manual is the Bible too your Explorer.

I've got a '96 and my mirrors colapse if you bump into them. Or the idiot workers at Mcdonald's open the windows into them. :D

As far as I can tell, all the explorer mirrors collapse... I didn't know mine (91) were supposed to until I hit a tree with it. Couldn't get it to budge before, but the tree worked. :p

they get pretty tight after a few years

ha, i wouldve checked the owners manual - but its a 92 - and its used - how likely is it that i would still have it? thanks for all the replies - looks like its time to bust out the sledge :)

Just went out and checked my 92 Sport, they fold. :)

I learned a long time ago; too keep the owners manual in the car. You never know what you might need it for.
