I was messing with the truck yesterday and playing around with the gauge test and self diagnosis system, and now the display is showing the CAL led lite. I did not do anything to the compass and it is still reading the proper direction so why won't it go away after I drove 15 miles to work this morning. Is it stuck in the calibration mode. Any ideas or should i leave it and it will magically go away.

It appears that it is in calibration mode. I will post the remedy when I get home to tonight. Stand by..............

Compass calibration adjustment

Perform this adjustment in an open area free from steel structures and high voltage lines:
For optimum calibration, turn off all electrical accessories (heater/air conditioning, wipers, etc.) and make sure all vehicle doors are shut.
1. Start the vehicle.
2. Locate compass sensor mounted at base of mirror.
3. Insert a paperclip into the small hole on the bottom of the compass sensor or press the button on the top of the compass module until ZONE appears in the instrument cluster display. Continue to hold down until ZONE disappears and CAL is displayed (approximately eight seconds) and release.
4. Drive the vehicle slowly (less than 5 km/h [3 mph]) in circles until CAL indicator turns off (4–5 complete circles).
5. The compass is now calibrated.

The compass does not need to be calibrated, it is working fine, it is just stuck in calibration mode, I read the whole deal out in the manual I could get that far, but it seemed so stupid since it is still reading proper directions, I just want to know how to get it out of calibration mode.

As soon as I read paper clip into base I threw the manual back in the glove box and quit that job, meanwhile I can press and hold 1 button in my taurus and it does the same thing, the paperclip thing was a joke, but if that's what it takes I'll have to suck it up.

Don't forget to make sure you have the correct zone!
