Alright, i'm sick of the crappy sound in my '98 XLT so i'm going to replace it. My father is going to give me a hand with the installation since he has a good bit of experience. This is what I want to do and I need to know if the speakers will fit correctly.

The speakers i'm looking at for both the front and rear are the 5x7 Alpine SPR-574A. I read that the R line of Alpines sound better than the S line. Will these speakers fit okay in both the front and the rear? Also, will
I still be able to use the OEM grills or will I have to use the grills included with the speakers?

As for a head unit I think i'm going to go with the Alpine CDA-9825 and i'm going to add the optional Alpine KCA-121B RCA adapater so I can use the optional Aux In on the back of the Alpine to hook up my iPod.

I don't want to go ahead and order the stuff until i'm sure that those Alpine speakers will work fine in my '98 Explorer.

I appreciate any comments you guys have.

physically they are small enough, Don't know if you will need a set of adapters though. Stock speaker size is 6x8. Some speakers are 5x7/6x8 meaning they have mounting holes for both. you'll just have to take a look at the speaker specs. The factory mounting is for 6x8 though

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I will check to see if those speakers have mounts for both sizes. On another note, is there plenty of space inside the explorer speaker holes or is it a pretty tight fit?

Do you mean Alpine SPR-570A? They fit your Explorer. There's space in the speaker holes for ...... speakers ;)

Alpine makes a 5x7 speaker called the SPS-570A. I know they will fit the Explorer because the guy at Circuit City said they would. The Alpine speakers I really want though are the SPR-574A. A higher quality speaker that is slightly deeper than the SPS line. I just wanted to know if there would be enough clearance for the extra added depth, I think a half inch or so, of the SPR-574A.
