Compression test psi for 5.0?

I'd like to know what the factory range is for a compression test on a 2000 5.0? What are acceptable numbers?

Well, it should be atmosphered pressure multiplied by your compression ratio. If I recall correctly, it is somewhere about 140psi.

Since the compression test is dependent upon multiple factors specific to your vehicle (miles, oil viscosity to some degree, maintenance, style driven, etc.) it is more related to consistency among the cylinders. Obviously if one cylinder varies 10-15%from the average of the other 7 readings, then the issue that you are investigating might be related to that.

Go ahead and do the test and post the results.

actually, i needed the compression numbers for an equation. Not because I think i'm low.

There should be a specific range for our application, and should be listed in any manuals. Looks like i'm off to buy a shop manual.

Haynes dosnt quote the compression only gives a minimum (100psi) and lowest must be within 75psi of the highest.

I have done several compression tests on my 1997 V8. The average cylinder pressure was around 160psi.

Make sure:
1) Engine is as warm as possible
2) Plugs are in all cylinders but test cyl.
3) Throttle plate is tied open.
4) Starter is bumped for same amount each cyl.
