Hi. I just refilled my air conditioning like the poster below. The compressor kicked in after the first can went in---but cycled on and off every three seconds. I assumed it needed another can because I had the system tested and should have been empty. The problem is now the air is cool---but not quite cool enough---and the compressor will not shut off. Is this a sign it needs more refrigerant? What is the capacity of the system in a 92? The compressor should run until cold and then cycle shouldn't it? Thanks. :can:

Hi Glacier--and thanks for the link. I only need to get the summer out of this thing till it's cold again. I didn't see anything to explain the compressor running all the time--unless it is air--like you said or possible blockage. I should explain--I am doing this myself-----the system has been converted----but to "frigid"? type coolant? It isn't very common I guess. I am not sure what the air guy did---I watched the guages and they sat rock solid. He didn't like the look of the slight rust on the hose fittings. He then quoted me a huge price to replace them. I only paid 3 grand for this truck and can't afford any more right now. I had a windstar bankrupt me.
Glacier---what can I do myself to purge any air from the system? The coolant is enviroment friendly----Dura Cool? I added one can and the compressor kicked on--but cycled on and off quickly. I then added a can of Superseal to close any small leaks there may have been. The compressor still cycled too often so I added one more can of Duracool. Now I have cold air--but the compressor runs until I turn it off with the controls. COuld it still be low? How many cans from empty will it take? I don't care if it dies on me---just wanted to get it to function if I could.

Ah .... a duracool "drop in". Well when the compressor is running, what are the vent temps... what is the ambient outside temp? Sometimes the compressor WILL run all the time....

Duracool drop in? Well today was 22C which is around 75?F I even tried truning the temperature to warmer settings but it still kept pumping. The inside of the truck was just comfortable enough to keep the windows closed. This is in the sun. I just don't want the compressor to wear out if I can fix it correctly. I wouldn't mind paying the guy to do it but the smirk on his face knowing it is his way or nothing just pissed me off. I do know it should cycle when a certain point is reached. For the length of time it ran it should've started cycling. I may try another can tomorrow but don't want to overfill it. It was bone empty to start from.

System capacity in R-12 is 32 OZ. To really help yourself you need a gauge set. $50 or so.

Thanks. Was beginning to think I needed a crowbar. Have a good one.
