I've noticed that my compressor run when the heats on. Now, i know that it runs when the defrost is on, but when the panel and floor are on? I've never noticed this in any of my other fords. It also seems like it isn't running like it should. Sometimes it will kick my RPMs up to 1500 and sometimes it will take them down to 500. So what do you think? Thanks!

Happy trailes!

when the outside temp ios over 50 degrees, the compressor runs at every setting except the panel/vent setting. if you set it at floor and panel it will run. it is really wierd I think, but the panel is the only setting to prevent the compressor (unless of course you disconnect the wire on top of the compressor).

yup yup, thats what my manual says

Compressor runs on all except the panel (vent) and the floor (heat).

compressor will run on floor if above 50 degrees....;-)

That is what I thought until I just looked at my manual. My manual even has an asterisk next to it which indicates that even in the floor only mode, the A/C compressor operates. The only two places on my '97 that the A/C doesn't operate is face-vent and off.

Thanks alot fellas! So i guess i can either just use the panel(vent) setting or just unplug the wire on top of the compressor. Has anyone else done this during the winter time? Does it harm anything by doing this? Thanks alot!

Happy trailes!

Other than if you go all winter without engaging your A/C compressor it might not work next summer when you want it to, not much else.

Yeah, I would at least run the compressor once a month so it doesn't get rusted up

They must have changed it, cause my '99 doesn't run on floor, and I'm pretty sure the manual said panel and floor. It's been a while since I read it, so I'll check again when I get home and report back tomorrow. Sorry if I caused any confusion......
