Hello people,

I signed up and did the best I could to search for similar posts. My skills for search must not be wonderful as I couldn't find a good explanation. I'd be surprised if this topic hasn't been gone over a few times. Anyways... here goes. My wife and I just brought home a 2016 Sport last weekend only to find out that it was not equipped with navigation. She's not happy. I'm not really interested in purchasing an $800 navigation upgrade. From what I'm reading people are very happy simply plugging their phones into the USB port and using the maps. My wife has an Iphone 5 or 6. I have an older Android based phone. I'm a big fan of Google Maps.

My research is showing a couple of Apps available.... Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Should either of these work? Is one better than the other?

The cat's meow would be finding a step by step instruction on how to use either with our car. If there is already a link somewhere here in the forum that would be fantastic.

Thanks for your time!
Jason

Surprised the Sport does not have navigation, I thought all the Sports did. Maybe you are just missing the SD memory Card that contains the maps? The SD card can be found on Amazon or eBay. https://www.amazon.com/Ford-Lincoln-Navigation-Canada-Updates/dp/B07D8R1KHM Before buying I would stop by a Ford dealer and have them verify if the car is equippped with Nav or not. You could also ask to borrow a SD card from a new car on the lot and see if it works.

As far as Apple Car Play or Android Auto, I believe neither will work with the 2016 Sport. You need a 2017 and up Explorer equipped with Sync 3. 2016 and down Explorers came with Sync 2.

If you want to replace your Sync2 system with a Sync3 system, that can be done, check the modified forums, but as I recall its 4-800 dollars for all the parts.

Welcome to the Forum Jason.
Voice Activated Navigation was optional on the 400A package and standard on the 401A package. Therefore you must have the 400A package.
