Hi all, I'm considering a '00 XLT with 145,000kms on it (don't know which V6).

Just wondering, what should I look out for with these cars? Also, how is the reliability? Any major issues? It'll be my daily driver, so I need something that will be dependable.

Thanks.

The biggest problem by far is the transmission. Check it out carefully feeling for smooth shifts and good fluid.

the bigggest thing is the tranny. Is it 4wd? Make sure you testy drive it and have a mechanic look over it(like you would for any used car you would buy)

i"ll only consider buying it if they give you a very good deal and after checking:

1)transmission fluid color, slipping or any noises.
2)if you hear a rattle noise from the engine(especially 4.0 sohc engine)

with those miles and if the transmission is not rebuild you better go for a v8 which has a better engine and much better transmission and you don`t have to worry of paying thousands for fixing your car.

Thanks for the advice guys. Yes, it's a 4x4. I'll definately watch out for the tranny then.

If its the VIN X engine (OHV 4.0) watch out for cracked heads and leaky gaskets. Make sure it idles really smooth, that was the first sign of many troubles on my 2000 XLT.

Rear wipers tend to go. Front suspension is shaky. Ball joints go around this time.
