Console Media Hub Door Latch Sticking

Console Latch

Finally figured it out! It was the rubber stopper inside the casing. One was missing causing the door to sit too far down to spring open. Got a replacement from a Ford dealer...$18 for one little rubber stopper. Got 'er installed and the door works perfectly now! I still have the wrapper at home if anyone ever needs the part# to order one.

What is the part number???
Thanks

I recently have this happen to me. I took mine in for a shifter replacement due to the "shift to park" error. Got the vehicle back and noticed that the door doesn't open well.

Looked at the pieces to the side of the door that come up from the main shifter trim and noticed one side was tapered in. I could also see the edge of the underlying trim panel. This side wasn't put over this edge and was being pushed in.

I removed the side panels, the piece that the cig lighter goes into inside the arm rest. Remove the 7mm bolt and removed the shifter trim. Put it back in and made sure the sides didn't get wedged.

Fixed it.

If you have the shifter replacement done or have a vehicle that the TSB doesn't pertain to then try this.

Hey guys,

If you have a sticky console door that's frustrating you, bring it up at your next dealership visit so they can check it out for you. If you need me to step in and help, give me a shout via PM and I'll do what I can to assist.

Crystal

Hey Crystal,
I did bring it to the dealership here in Waldorf Maryland and they said I have to replace the whole center consloe and it will cost about $500. I am like really it is just a piece of wire that has become weak. Is there anyway to fix that instead of replacing the whole thing? The service tech said they don't have that part alone and the whole thing has to be replaced. Thanks in advance.

Hi Luis, welcome to the Forum.
Crystal is no longer monitoring this Forum. Actually, I don't think anyone from FordService has been monitoring this Forum since the previous group left on Jan. 31st. I think we are on our own. As for the latch sticking, I think that is a common issue/ At least is has been for me. I picked up my 2017 on Oct. 31st and one of the first tings I tried was that latch and guess what? It didn't open. Over the years I've gotten used to using my whole hand by putting pressure on the rear of the latch while putting light pressure on the front. On my 2011 the latch worked the way it should once the weather or interior warmed up.

Get a hold of Benny from Levittown Ford Superstore and ask him about getting the parts, I bet it's much cheaper through him and you can replace it yourself.

AWESOME! that was the part I couldn't quite figure out.

Thanks so much!!!!!! :D

Hi there dahveede, I suppose you were able to place that little spring back on the door. Mine came off and I'm not able to place it back again. Were you able to do it? any special tools? Thanks in advance.

Kind regards.

The little flip lid with the “sync” logo on the centre console latch sticks closed (the one that covers the pocket with the USBs, SD card etc) think the plastic inside has cracked so latch isn’t sat in place. I have tried searching for a name of this part but every time I put in any sort of lid or cover it gives me armrest covers/lids

Could someone please help me out? Hoping it’s just a 5 min job to change out

The lid is not replaceable on its own; you have to replace that whole piece, with the insert. The part number for 2012 is DB5Z-7804608-BB. I would think that the newer one would also fit, and is cheaper. It's EB5Z-7804608-DB. That one has a cutout for your phone charger to pass through.

As Jon mentioned, the door is unfortunately not replaceable on its own. Top Panel - Ford (DB5Z-7804608-BB) | Auto Nation Ford White Bear La
Have tried pressing on the back of the door after you unlathed it? I had the same sticking issue in my 2011 when the weather got colder. I'd put my thumb on the front to press down and at the same time with my fingers pushing on the back in sort of rolling motion was able to open it. Check that out first to see if there is actually an issue. As some in this thread have said, the problem might also be the spring. Good luck.

Both Ford parts and Auto Nation sites state that EB5Z-7804608-DB does not match a 2012 Explorer.

I realize that, however, it should still fit. That part was changed to add the cutout for 2014. The 2012 part on Autonation was listed at $450, so I figured the 2014+ part being $87, would be worth a try.

Sorry I never replied to this, I am going to text both those numbers over to my parts guy tomorrow to see what the pricing looks like. The second one with a cutout sounds like it makes a lot of sense as I wonder if that’s maybe where the issue started

Have you tried what I suggested in post #50? I think this "sticking" is normal and that you will likely have the same issue with a replacement. My 2011 had the same issue when it was cold. Once the interior warmed up it worked perfectly. I just tried the one in my 2017 which is parked in the garage and it also won't open unless I press on the front to unlatch it and press on the rear of the lid. It works great in warm weather.

I haven’t tried the push back, will give it a go when I head out today. I think the latch on mine is now cracked inside as the wife may have got a little frustrated with it one day....
