Media Hub Door

Hello all,

Two weeks after purchasing our 2013 Ford Explorer, we stopped at a drive thru. After getting my credit card back, I placed it on the media hub door (closed) and then started driving. A few seconds later I hear the card slide and it went behind the hub door and through the small notch.

Does anyone know how to remove just the door from the Media Hub? I think my card is sitting back there - not a big deal for me just to call and get a new one, but I'd rather not have it back there.

Thank you in advance!

What is a media hub door, and where is it located?

It's that flip up door on the top of the centre console. You gave to open it to get access to the USB ports and navigation SD card. It had a Microsoft badge on it in my 2011 Ex.

The side plastic panel of the console pops off easily. Then you can reach in and grab it.

Ate my ID card.......

Would you please be more specific on how to remove the side plastic panel. My retired military ID card is hibernating in there.

Thanks........

Thanks for the replies.

I was able to pop off the side panels, but unable to find the card. At this point, I'll probably just leave it.

ronninco - The side plastic panels have multiple snaps holding it to the console. Pulling on them firmly should be enough to get them off - don't yank it as you might break something, it's only plastic. I'd suggest the passenger side.

2012 USB door

I just bought my explorer about a month ago (used) 33000 miles and the usb door is hard to open so i have taken it back to dealer and got a new one put on and it's doing the same thing has anybody else had this issue and any help to fix it Thanks

Are the two little rubber "bumpers" there under the door? They are on the console part closest to the shifter and visible when the door is open. They keep the door under a little tension and allow it to spring up when you push the button to open it.

not sure but i will for sure check it out if not i make shift me one. Thank You

I have merged your thread with this existing one. I had that issue with my 2011 Limited when the weather was cold. No issues when it was warm or when the cabin warmed up.

Did you get yours fixed with the rubber bumpers? Or is it still sticking and thank you for attaching the thread it seems a common problem. Im not seeing the bumpers in the pics i don't think though if they are on the door mine is new from dealer yesterday and stuck this morning but it was cold here.

Mine wasn't missing anything. Just didn't like cold temperatures. I never used that compartment much and when I did in cold temps, I got pretty good at clicking on the front while pushing down on the back with one hand.;)

Sticky Door Problem

I too have this problem...well kind of. I normally keep my badge from work in this compartment. One morning, when I attempted to open the door to get my badge, the door didn't open. I tried everything I could think of, and was in no mood to play around with this plastic door. So I jammed a flat head screwdriver in, and pried the door open. Well this busted the door assembly (which sounds worse than it looks). Now the door simply stays in the open position until I decide to have it replaced, or figure/fashion some sort of fix on my own.

Now I know "guerilla mode" was not an approved response to the situation, but this is extremely frustrating thing to deal with. Now it's a minor inconvenience, as to look at it, you wouldn't know that it won't stay closed on it's on. I'm thinking of glueing some sort of knotch next to the "Microsoft" moniker, and then using some weak magnets to keep the door closed.

Now if I could figure out a fix on the fly like this, surely Ford should have too. This is such a simple problem, but it speaks to the larger point of Ford standing by and supporting it's products. And now they wonder why people are leary about plunking down thier hard earned 40k on their vehicles. Way to go Ford.

I forgot to mention, if anyone attempts to use this fix, you may want to install your magnets on the nearest corner to the driver as possible, remember magnets and thumb drives don't mix, so either be really careful, or consider velcrow.

Item number for rubber stoppers

Finally figured it out! It was the rubber stopper inside the casing. One was missing causing the door to sit too far down to spring open. Got a replacement from a Ford dealer...$18 for one little rubber stopper. Got 'er installed and the door works perfectly now! I still have the wrapper at home if anyone ever needs the part# to order one.

Hi, we just got a 2011 explorer and I have this same problem. It turns out it's also missing a rubber stopper. Do you still happen to have the part# for ordering the stopper?

Thanks,

Brandon

I just keep mine open all the time. I keep my sunglasses and occasionally my cell phone in there. I'd probably rather have it without a lid.

Welcome to the Forum Naca777.:wavey:
Looking at www.fordparts.com, the part seems to be called a Glove Box Door Bumper and is listed at $18.75. Yes, it is referred to as "Glove Box". Part number 06066. The diagram shows it as 06066A.
