No.

I wouldn't get an alignment from a shop that can't tell a leaf spring from a control arm. ;)

Lmao ikr? They said that they wanted 1900 with labor and parts for control arms and shocks and labor

Heh! Ya, find a better shop, or DIY. Apparently it's not that hard, although I'm biding my time till I have to do it myself since I'm always on the edge of failing smog. At some point it's going to fail smog and not be worth the fixing, and I'd hate it if that day came a day after I spent a few hundo overhauling the suspension.

Murphy's law...you just KNOW that the above is exactly what will happen!

I'm replacing the upper control arms and lower ball joints on both my 2000 Mountaineers as soon as the weather warms up a bit. I just got the parts delivered from RockAuto today. Total parts cost, including shipping, was right around $102 per vehicle. My labor is free, I'm also going to replace the front rotors, wheel bearings and seals on the RWD Mountaineer. RA's cost for those parts is $89.

Do not make the mistake of buying cheap suspension parts...or, you'll be doing this all over again in short order. I'm sure if you tried hard enough, you could find cheap Chinese parts for under $50 on e-Bay!

Yep, you can spend less than $102. I bought Moog upper control arms (they're a bit more) and. Quick Steer lower BJ's. I put the same setup on my '01 Sport Trac about a two months ago and I'm happy with it. I hope you didn't buy Detroit Axle control arms. Their quality is suspect.

I do everything that i can by myself if idk how to do it i ask a neighbor to help i just did my smog the other day and it passed

Unless a person has deep pockets, doing you own repairs (at least as much as you can) is the only practical way to keep one of these on the road.

As for ball joints...I'm all about using Moog on my vehicle.

How good are they?

Moog has a long-standing reputation for quality. I use their Problem Solver line of suspension parts and haven't been disappointed yet. And, when I do a job such as this, I want to do it once and be done with it.

I also installed the Moog problem solvers. It's been 3 years now and I have been completely happy with them.

And, I was also a rookie at working on vehicles before attempting this.

Moog is the preferred brand of most here on the forum. I've bought them for my 2001 EB five years ago, my 2001 ST 2 months ago and now both of our 2000 Mountaineers. I don't think I'll ever need to buy another set as long as I grease them periodically. No complaints whatsoever.
