control module 2005

Does any one know the location of the 4x4 control module on my 2005 ranger 4x with 5 speed transmission. I am having intermittent problems with 4 wheel. I have taken off the motor and taken it apart and checked that the motor is operating properly.. it is as best as I can tell. I applied 12 volt to the motor leads and all is working well, forward and backwards. The top cap as far as I can see can't be taken apart to see if the contacts are working properly. sooo the control module next???? Thanks

I found what I think is the the module for the 4wd under the hood on top the drivers side wheel well with what looks like the anti-brake attached to it. I just want to say thanks for the help and to let you know all is working fine at least for now. Like I had written I had the 4wd motor out and went through it as the great post described, re-installed it with no change. So I went through with electric clean and a brass brush cleaning all the grounds and connectors. Double checked all fuses and relays and as the connectors cleaned all and coated with al/nox. including what I think was the 4wd module connector block and made sure there was good voltage to the 4wd motor.Then put all back together crossed my fingers and it works fine. I did have something to work on as I knew the 4w low and 4x4 light would flash temporary just for a bit as I would start the engine, so at least in my head I knew the module was good, so I just had to go the the elimination process and it worked. 4x4 module

I am in error as to the location of the 4x4 control module. What I was refering to in my earlier post turned out to be the anti-lock module NOT the 4x4 module. The 4x4 module is behind the radio on the inside of the fire wall. I think I will buy a factory service manual does any one have such a thing for sale??? Again thanks for the help. sullivancorner
