Control Trac stuck in 4Lo

Hello,
So I drove around the other day in 4Lo and it worked great as always(knocks on wood) I got back to the campus and parked. I went back to drive a week later and the dumb thing would not go back into 4(auto as it does not have 2wd). I was able to get it to go back in with the ignition on without engine power and dropping it into neutral.
So here is the question. What could be causing this? 4hi and 4auto works fine. The catch is it will not go back into 4Lo without me doing it without the engine running and of course it doesn't want to come back up to 4auto. I've got no error lights or flashing lights.

There is probably about 50 different things that could be causing the problem, but I would start with the simple things. Pull the shift motor off the back of the transfer case and see how easily you can manually move the transfer case in and out of 4auto 4hi and 4low. If that shift rod seems to be quite easy to move you probably have a weak shift motor or a dead spot in the shift motor.

Just a simple place to start.

Sounds like you are not using correct shift procedure...verify that for us first.

the correct procedure for going to 4low is to put the trans in n than switch the switch over, wait for the 4 low light to come on, and than go into gear,
as the correct procedure for getting it out of 4 low or 4 high is the exact opposite,
stop, put the trans in n wait for the lights to go out, than put the trans back into gear,,
maybe you didn't wait long enough for it to come out of 4wd ???

Yeah were good! A little lag 3-4 seconds 4lo to auto. It needs a fluid change no metal in it though so that's good. Thanks for the help!
