So today I changed out my dash lights as they were all burned out. I put everything back together and check my 4x4 to make sure it still worked. I switched it from 2-4hi-4lo no problem and then tried to switch it back and the lights went off but then started flashing when i turned the vehicle back on and now i am stuck in 4lo. Prior to this everything worked flawlessly. Bad shift motor? They flash 6 times if that means anything. Any help would be great as i cant drive my truck to work bc of this.

Most likely the shift motor is bad. Blinking lights usually mean the shift motor has gone outside its boundaries (stop bushing crumbled) and it is confused about what position it's in so it freezes up.

You'll need to replace that bushing in the shift motor if this is the case. Easy fix. I used a chunk of rubber vacuum hose. In the meantime you can unplug the shift motor (there may be a brown wire you'll have to clip and re-connect later), undo the three retaining bolts, and take it off the t-case. Then use pliers or a vice grips to turn the selector shaft to the 2HI position. It should be marked on the case which way to turn it. You can drive it that way as long as you need to.

might check and make sure you didn't knock connector loose on back of shift knob as well. I had trouble with my 04 shifting out of 4wd and especially lo range. Turned our to be a bad ground. Transfer case shifts like new now.

Some times you can get lucky and just disconect the battery for 30 seconds and try again. If it doesn't work you can pull the shift motor off easy enough, 3x10mm bolts and use a 9mm wrench to turn the shaft back into 4x4 high. Then you could at least drive it.
