ok people, I need some help here..

on my 93 sport 4X4, the 4X4 doesnt work..

but, at random intervals, one of the front wheels will engage, and cause to vehicle to pull really hard to one side..

seems dangerous

is there a way to disconnect the front wheels from the rest of the driveline so this doesnt happen, or am I thinking of this all wrong.

any input will be appreciated..

with winter around the corner, I dont want to have the thing pull me into a wall like my Ranger did..

thanks

what about manual hubs, would they give me full control?

I honestly have no clue what goes on inside a 4X4 hub..

yup that would work if it is your 4x4 screwing you up...can't think how only one wheel would be engaging....Guys?

Go with manual Warn hubs. Reasonably priced and easy to install. My '94 XLT was grabbing very strangely too, until I replaced the hubs.

I think you can disconnet your front drive shaft.. My friend did that with his Jeep Cherokee

that seems like a pretty easy swap, was it?

and does your transfer case need to be engaged, or is the shaft always spinning in there, and the hub just engages it?

The swap is easy (a little greasy though...). Pop off the spring clips on the lug studs and slide off the old hubs. I also replaced the wheel bearings and retaining nuts at the same time.

Driving:

If the hubs are not engaged, the front axle and driveshaft do not spin (engaging 4x4 has no effect, still 2wd).

If the hubs are engaged, the front axle and driveshaft will spin, and will engage when 4x4 is selected.

ya, my 4X4 switch doesnt seem to work..

when I push it, I hear some clickclickclick sounds from somewhere, but it never seems to engage..

so, even with the new manual hubs, that wont make my 4X4 functional huh?

With 4x4 engaged and the hubs free, try the following: On a level surface, place the trans in Neutral, set the parking brake, block the wheels, and turn off the engine. Try rotating the front driveshaft by hand. It will not turn if the transfer case is engaged.
