ok have a 95 with the 4.0 in it dont know which trans model but its the auto with overdrive.
Anyways recently i have been noticing that the trans somtimes seems to unlock and lock just while cruising..
today it was about 63-64 mph down the highway with the cruise on or off it would lock up unlock and lock up again and would just keep doind every few seconds..
Mileage on the truck is 168,000 the trans filter and pan oil were changed about a week ago. ( it did it befroe the filter change too, nothing noticeable in the pan either) i cleaned it up in the parts washer and reinstalled so im kind of wondering if it could be a converter?? dont know how exactly they lock up though assuming its electronically locking up( is that how they work?)
any info appreciated...
any sensors i should try easy ones i have a buddy that i can swap with others i will replace as PM with this kind of mileage..
Thakns in advance

You may have been right at the threshold of lockup, causing it to lock and unlock, but I'd be surprised... It's more likely that, unless you had the cruise set, it's your driving style. Taking your foot off the gas and coming back to 0% throttle will unlock the torque converter and engage the coast clutch (1st gear band IIRC??? I was just reading about this the other day, and forgot it already!). If that's the case, I would consider it completely normal. However, if the cruise was set, we may want to look into it more... not sure...

its a problem that i have noticed a couple of times maybe 3 or 4 times in the last month and its usually cruising along the flat road so im not getting into it and out of it enought to make it unlock. after it happens i intentionally push the accelaerator down and it wont unlock for quite a bit of movement.
so my thinking is its something sensor related or torque convertor related.
