I have a '86 Explorer XLT with the 5.0. I have been getting code P0401 for quite some time so I have been troubleshooting it today.
Along the way I read that the 96 5.0 explorer does not have a "DPFE" (Differential Pressure Feedback) sensor like later 5.0 engines. It has a another component that my Chilton manual calls a "PFE" (Pressure Feedback) sensor. My factory electrical manual (and Autozone) calls this thing an EGR Position sensor and it mounts on top of the EGR valve.
In my reading, I also read that another member had his PFE replaced with a DPFE due to a recall. Does anyone know if this is a worthwhile thing to do?
Doe anyone know how to do the modification?
