I was given some misinformation by the local Checker Parts dude, and I cut the plug end off of my '94 Explorer XLT. As it turns out, this was the factory 7-pin plug, and I was supposed to get a "converter plug" to switch over. I'm far beyond this point now (Wires are cut) and need help wiring in the normal round 6-pin. I need to know what to do with the three black ground relay return wires? Any help in this en devour, will save me hours of testing and probably an aneurysm.;)

Thanks

Typically you can assume that the wiring follows the standard wiring colors (green, yellow, white, brown, and so on...). But if I were you, I'd do a pinout to find out exactly what wire does what. This procedure typically takes just a few minutes and can be done with a voltmeter or a noid light.

BTW I dont think your vehicle came came with a "factory 7 plug". Explorers typically come with the flat 4-pin plug (ground, left, right running). Even if you bought the converter, you still need to wire the rest of the left-over pins (12v, aux, brakes)

Indeed, I do (did) have an original 7-pin harness from the factory. Info can be found here: http://www.explorerforum.com/Singleton/web/pages/trailerwiring.html

I need help with the SPDT relays, and the three black ground return wires. I don't know what to do with them, and I'm considering building my own harness which bypasses the relays. . . . I'd like to keep them though, because they provide good protection for the vehicle.

I don't have a clear enough understanding of where to put the ground return wires, in the new 6-pin common plug.:(
