1994 Explorer EB
Hello, I am new to this site, and I have just purchased a 1994 Explorer EBwith 138000 miles. I have been searching this site for several days trying to find answers to my problem, and while I have learned alot from this site I still need some help.

When I bought my truck about a month ago, it had a mis in the engine, would ping (which I found to be common), the coolant temperature would always run between the "M" and the "A" on the gauge and I could smell coolant after I shut it off. The dealer took the truck to a mechanic, and they said that the mis was due to not having platinum plugs so they changed them, but that was the only thing that they could find wrong with it. After that I had the cooling system flushed, and a new thermostat put in, and it stopped pinging  and the temp ran closer to the middle of the gauge. That lasted a week, and now it is pinging again, missing, and running a little warm. I visually inspected the engine for leaks and I found water standing on the top of the lower intake between the intake and the valve cover on the right (passenger) side of the engine. I assume that this would be the lower intake gasket. Correct? I figured that if it is leaking on the outside then it must be leaking on the inside too, thus causing the plugs to get wet (misfire).Correct?. If someone could let me know if I am way off, I would appriciate it. Also, the oil has no coolant in it that I can see when I check it. Sorry this was so long, I just wanted to give you an accurate interpretation of what is happening.

I would try re-torquing the lower intake bolts.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am in the process of removing the intake now so that I can change the lower gasket. After I took the upper intake off, I checked the lower intake bolts, and they were loose. I figured I was that far, might as well finish the job. I will have to work on it some more tomarrow, because I had to come to work.
