2000 Ex 5.0. I'm doing some other projects and decided to replace the coolant pipe. I've got all the hoses off, removed the nut holding it to the intake. now how do I get it out of the block?

In this thread: removing coolant tubes 5.0 Turdle guides us to eat some wheaties and unscrew. Well my new pipe does not have the screw attached, just some o-rings that make it look like it can be pressed in. See attached pic.

Could I pry the old pipe out leaving the wheaties nut in place?

Do I need to unscrew the wheaties nut and transfer it over to the new pipe?

Do I need to find a new wheaties nut for my new pipe?

According to this diagram, it looks like the two are seperate pieces. you may be able to extract them off of the old bypass lines. I am unsure, let me know if you find something out.

In all my searching last night I did not come across that diagram.
That part number (9N437) does point to the bolt which further substantiates that these are 2 separate pieces. I have it removed. For future reference I'll attached a pic of what I did.

Remove all hoses from the tube; un screw the nut towards the back that hold the tube down. If you want to save the temp sensor make sure to remove it before going any further.

In order to get to all this stuff the air intake tube and throttle body needs to be removed. I left the EGR attached to the exhaust manifold and disconnected it from the throttle body. Also unbolt the coil pack bracket, unplug the passenger side plug wires and move the whole assembly out of the way.

Flex the EGR tube and pull the coolant pipe toward the passenger side fender, it won't move much, but will help with leverage. Using a short pry bar get under the coolant tube as near to the nut as possible and leverage it against the valve cover. You'll have to work around the oil fill. Holding the tube toward the passenger side wiggle the pry bar. Take your time this takes a while. I also put a wrench where the temp sensor screws in to wiggle side to side, this is what ultimately pulled it apart.

You will need to unplug at least the front 2 injectors to work the pipe out.

The nut is 1". I opted to remove it because it was dirty inside, I'm cleaning it to provide a good mating surface. a 1" socket and a breaker bar made the removal very easy.
I have no way to get on the nut with the pipe pressed in, so I'm going to install the nut then press the pipe in.

Just so ya'll know the coolant pipe does not sit all the way into the nut. A rubber mallet should be sufficient to set it into the nut. I pulled it back out and destroyed the gaskets. O'reillys had some new o-rings and I pressed it together in a vice, then screwed the nut into the intake. Ultimately it's installed and no leaks. Learn from my mistakes.
