I just got a 53,000 mi 97 sport explorer with a 4.0 0hv and found a slow coolant leak problem. I am pretty sure the coolant has never been changed, only added to,as the lady I got it from had it WILLED to her 10 years ago, and she used it very sparingly while in her care. I get a 2 inch puddle on each side of the oil pan after leaving it sit overnight. Can anyone tell me if this vintage 4.0 ohv had either a head gasket or freeze plug problem, and if so, what manufacturer replacement parts would be an upgrade?
