I recently picked up an '02 Exploder Limited 4.0 2WD with a bad motor. It did run, I drove it onto the car dolly to tow it to my shop (home garage). I am a little disappointed to learn, after searching through these threads for a bit, that the consensus is the 02 is more problematic then the later models. Oh well, moving on.
In a first for me, it appears the PO overheated it, filled it up with water, and let it freeze. The block has a massive patch of epoxy on the casting around the cylinder liners. It didn't hold. To add insult to their injury, the head gaskets / heads / block are also cracked because both sides of the engine have cylinders filled with coolant after I let it sit for a few weeks. Their patch attempt was not only futile, but in vain as well.
I have a donor motor. I've pulled the bad motor out and am swapping stuff over to the donor. I'm replacing all of the "while you're in there" parts. One section I'm looking at is the hoses for the heater & cooling system. There's a crap-ton of them on the passenger side!
My question is, does anyone have a parts diagram, or is there a complete list breakdown of ALL of the heater & coolant hoses under the hood? Is there a kit someone has made that can be purchased? Or am I resigned to the dealer$hip for finding these hoses/parts?
Also, I noted the timing chain problems with this motor. I suppose it would be a good idea to replace the rear cassette while the engine is out?
