Broke down last night and had to be towed home as I lost all my coolant.
Investigated and found major leak at the rear of the engine. Its in a very difficult area and awkward to see but it looks like I've lost something!! By putting a hose in the rad I get a fountain of water from what I can feel is a 6mm hole. Looking with a torch I can just make out a machined surface and a threaded fixing hole. I presume this is the mating surface of a flange face. Can someone tell me what should be there. I'm guessing that its something to do with the tranny cooling.
Cheers
Had another look with a mirror and it looks like a core plug to me. The threaded holes are a worry but I suppose it could be for something else not used. Does anyone know the engine core plug positions?
Going to Ford dealer tomos to look at schematics should get to the bottom of it sooner or later.
Sorry for the delay in updating, I havent logged on for a while. Anyway... Problem was a core plug sealing an unused flange connection. Almost impossible to get to but if you take off the air intake (seal exposed intakes with rags) and you lay across the engine its just possible to remove the old core plug. I managed to drive in a new plug by seating it with a small hammer then using a suitable sized socket and socket extension bars drove it home flush. Not something you'd want to do every day but alot easier than removing the engine.
