I am moving down to the lower 48 states from Alaska this summer. I am changing the radiator hoses and putting new coolant in. I don't want any problems in the middle of no where. Anyway since I am doing the hoses I was going to put in a new thermostat. another thread I was reading, said to stay with the 195 instead of going to a 160 unless you have a chip that calls for it. It was said it will cause your X to run rich or lean. But isn't the coolant sensor supposed to tell the computer the temperature and adjust the rich/lean accordingly? Sorry this is so long

When using a colder thermostat, the computer always thinks the engine is in warm-up mode instead of "on temperature."

What MRSHORTY said. Your engine and computer are designed to work at the higher temp. You just might want to change out your coolant more frequently if you live in say, death valley-or Dallas like me. I swear that the weather channel often shows it hotter in Dallas than in Death Valley! I drain and fill mine every 2 years. Probably overkill, but its cheap and easy.
