Corner Light, switch lights?

So let me get this straight with the wiring..

Corner, +/-
Top Blinker, +/-/?
What is "?"

Could I..
Corner, -/?
Top, +/-
??... *sigh*

the "big" bulb has two filaments in it.. one that is rated 5W and another thats
25W.. the 5W is the running light ang when you use your turn signal, the 25w blinks and lights up via the turn light flasher..

so basically its:

Corner, +/-
Top Blinker, +/-/+

it is NOT possible by just altering the wiring.. the top corner bulb is a single filament 5W (or lower) bulb.. sure you can make it blink alternately by reversing the ground so it shorts out everytime the lower corner signal bulb goes on but that is just being desperate..

just swap out the sockets, extend the wires and install.. three very simple steps..

I don't even have the tools to do this surgery.. [If I did, plus the experience.. I'd do the operation for making stock corners clear]
You think this will looks retarded when I use my blinkers if I went the cheap route for the looks... (switching the bulbs with opposite colors)

you'll get the look but not the function.. idk 'bout that looking retarded cuz its your work and your style so i dont have the right to judge that.. i've already shown you how i did mine and the look that i wanted to achieve.. maybe you can settle for the aesthetic part first till you're ready to fully mod it..

hmmm, dont all 2nd gen explorers come with full amber corner light bulbs from the factory (that means all three bulbs are amber/orange tinted)?

anyway, goodluck with whatever you decide on doing... gotta get some zzz's for the long weekend..

Alright, ttyl.. thanks for the input.

As an alternative, does anyone know if I could find the end connectors that support the opposite bulbs?

Alright, what about these alternatives to wiring modification..
*Assume I've replaced the bulbs with the appropriate colors for this mod.*
Corner, +/- like normal.
Top, +/- [Disconnect Blinker Wire]

Or

Corner, +/- like normal
Top, +/- [Take a wire, connect high beam to blinker wire.] So when the highs are on, it makes the blinker white light brighter?

Would that be safe?

Yeah, that kinda confused me..

Would it be safe to do the bright wire mod?

Anyone?

Would it be safe to slice the high beam wire into the "blinker" wire? would that kill the bulb? [same concept as the britebox.. high/low same time]

This is what I'm going to do if it's safe, the only blinker I'll have on the sides is going to be the lower corner part. The actual corner is going to be amber.. and the top is going to be white, with a "high beam" option...

What do you guys think?

Bump.

How much can these bulbs handle?

i think i know what you're trying to do and yes it is doable.. lets see if this will work for you..

1. the corner wiring doesnt need to be touched. it already works as a running light so let it be. just change the bulb to an amber one so it matches the one below it. $3 a pair at walmart or any auto store.

2. TOP: it already has a dual filament bulb in it. All you have to do is replace it with a clear bulb so it matches your headlight. cut off the "signal light wire" about 3-4 inches from the socket so you still have a lot of wire to work with. wrap the wire you just cut off with electrical tape. make sure it doesnt come in contact with the frame so it doesnt short out your signal lights because it is still active whenever you use your turn signal. Now extend the wire coming from the BULB SOCKET to your high beam wire. After doing this properly, the TOP lights will burn brighter whenever you use your high beams. It will also come on when you flash your high beams in the morning.

It'll work 'cause all these bulbs run on 12~14V but has different brightness due to their wattage ratings (i.e. high beams=12v/65W , turn signal bulb= 12v/5W[running light]-25W[turn signal light]).

try it out. worse thing you can do is pop a fuse.

You understood perfectly, the thing that was worrying me the most was blowing the bulb up... if you think about it.. that higher wattage part of the bulb is only lit for short periods of time.. blinking... Don't know how long it would last while I'm driving around outta town with my brights on.

But I'm gonna give it a try... seems I figured a way to do as I proposed, and even make the top part function even more with the headlight... the little corner.. I could care less about.

It's probably not legal right now.. all of them are clear.... lol.. (I just switched them to see how it looked)

I don't think it'll be too noticeable because of the reflectors, but I'm definitely not going to keep it this way.. I'm still messing with it.
Since the bulb is kinda too dim without the "blink" wire powered, I think I'm just going to swap the blink wire with the normal parking light wire.. and I'll keep the + for the "low" capped off..

Wonderfull idea. However no one can see your trick because it will only be on with the high beams and those will blot out a marker light.

Nono, I mean forget the high beam function with the blinker light, and have it wired so it's in the "blink" high function as it's normally on.. so it's as bright as the low beams.. (or close)

When the high beam kicks on, it'll remain the same brightness, it'll stay that way as the turn signal is on too, the only light that'll do anything is the bottom side, as the blinker..

So this is how it'll go..

Both sides will be amber bulbs, the tops will be changed to white, and I'll cut the power wire and blinker wire.. I'll seal the blinker wire on the harness, and I'll seal the "low" wire coming from the light.. and I'll take the two remaining wires and connect them.. so it's bright all the time..

(Unless both + have to be powered for the light to function..) But if it's like the headlight.. then this all should work...

Take a blinker bulb out of the circuit, like when a bulb burns out , and what happens? Do you think the blinkers will blink fast to let you know there is only one front bulb blinking?
Parad1mg showed you how to do it with pics and everything just like you asked.
Now this.

Mine blinked like normal when I had the top light out..

Why are you getting all offensive when I want to come up with an alternative to my idea?
This way, it can easily be put back to normal if it doesn't work right, or I want the stock look back.. cutting the housing is a lot more work.. and if something goes wrong... uh oh...

His idea is great, if I had spare corners I would try it.

having your turn signal blink faster is one factor why i opted for both form and function.. i always go with that customized/modified while retaining an o.e.m. look..

having it on its blink function (25W) all the time wouldnt be good for the housing as it isnt designed for that..

here's a thought; if you really wanna do something with those corner lights, just look at all your variables and plan it out step by step. gather all your materials and if possible pre-make components whenever possible. thats what i do since i dont have the time, spare parts and the place to make a project into a prolonged one..

i think i've given you all the info that you'll need.. now its all up to you to make your ideas work..

Sounds good to me, there's plenty of possibilities. Still going through them all, seeing how they each look.. figuring how it'll affect things in the long run.
