Correct 4wd Control Module???

This morning I received a replacement 4x4 control module from Silverstatefordparts.com for my 02 Ranger. The box it was packed in was a Motorcraft box and had the part numbers TM-101 and 1L5Z-7E453-AC which is what I expected and also matched the packing slip.

But then when I pulled the module out of the box the Ford Part # on the module itself was 1L54-7H417-AE, which has me confused.

I called Siverstate and they said that this was the newer control module and the Ford Part # on it is not the part # but a Ford engineering number. I am still just a little confused and was wondering if anyone can confirm this.

I had the same thing happen a couple years ago. They did switch to a new number.

They update the engineering numbers from time to time. Just because they don't match doesn't mean they are incompatible. Usually the parts guy can verify that from the old number that it's been superseded to the newer part... Not uncommon.
