Just got the X and only thin that seems to need to be done is the negative (black) connection is corroded and is missing the rubber cover over it.

Can I just take it off while the X is off and clean it with a wire brush etc? Its not rusted at all and the cables are in really good shape so I do not think it needs to be replaced.

Pour some baking soda and water over it. Wire brush is good too. Disconnect the battery and clean the terminals, there are special tools to which slip over the terminal and clean it up, but a wire brush will work fine.

The negative one is corroded? Thats abnormal.. Usually its the positive one that usually gets corroded first.. If they look really bad, you can go out and get some replacement ones at any local parts store. Just clean them off good and apply some type of protectant on them whether it be petroleum jelly or the stuff over the counter at the parts store for terminals..

My negative has been building up corrosion for the last few months, I use baking soda and water solution, then use an old toothbrush to scrub it (toothbrush works great for small areas).

Wire brush to the inside of the terminals, and sandpaper to the battery terminals should do.

FYI, the negative side never had a cover.
