Im trying to replace the thermostat in my 95 X. The battery terminal was corroded badly, so took some baking soda and water too it. I have been trying to get the darn negative cable off the battery terminal but it wont budge and is actually moving the negative battery terminal around!! The connector metal around the terminal is really soft too. I cant get the tightening bold out of the connector at all. tried penetrating grease and no luck. What can I do? And will I need a new battery because the negative terminal is loose?
Thanks,
Nick

...i would suggest a new battery and a new negative cable and don't get a 5 dollar cable, get a good one with the frame ground on it allready...that ground cable is the most important part to all your electronic equipment on your vehicle...;)

New battery and new cable. And as said above, don't skimp on the cable.

Thanks for the replies. its an old battery anyway. good preventative maintenance I guess.

looks like a ball joint puller would work on it, it has arms that would hold the terminal and a screw that you tighten on the post to push it through. if you get one bet that would work!

Like they said above. Don't skimp on the quality and how important those grounding cables are.
Don't be afraid to add more if you like. If you look in the pic I even ground one head to the other then to frame. You can see bolt connecting a high quality cable to the bottom of head.

The ball joint puller would work, but it won't fit between the cable and the top of the battery.

They sell a battery terminal puller that looks like a mini-ball joint puller... the fingers that slip under the terminal are much thinner.

Lisle Tool part number 54150. Check Ebay or Amazon.com

Also a little puller ...not ball joint one but the other model.

...i wonder if this could fit in my ranger with minimal trimming......

Wow! clean setup Rookie. I went ahead and bought a new battery and good cable (didnt skimp). I don't have a massive system, but don't want to destroy my components.
