I saw the responses to the carrier baring costs. Makes me wonder if I've been over priced.

I've dragged me feet on regearing my truck because of the high cost. In Colorado a couple of years ago, I was quoted $1200 to regear front and rear. Here in DFW, I was quoted $1600. Is that too high? If I can get it done cheaper, I would love to. Open 3.27s are not the best for rock crawling. ;)

cant u just get like a 4.10 gear and put it in yourself?

99% of the population cannot install their own gears.

Labor is $200-350 per axle, and parts can range anywhere from $220 on up depending on what you get.

I was recently quoted $1300 for both diffs.:(

no kidding?!! and ther i was looking for 4.10 gears on ebay thinking that it is a plug and play deal. pull out the old and in the new kinda thingy. no??

NO. It takes a bit of skill and knowledge to do it. I read up on it and tried it myself and ended up taking it in it was a big pain. I think I could learn it if i had a spare axle around to play with or someone to show me, but it isn't easy and if it is not just right you can ruin a brand new set of gears. I got both my axles done for $200 each in labor, plus parts.

And if you are still looking for 4.10s check the fore sale section I just posted a set.

thanks, but i only need it for rear...2wd here. but thanks for the info though

You may be able to find a a carrier or complete axle with 4.10 ratio installed.

What do i need besides the package that i buy from like 4wheelparts or somewhere, i need a new carrier fr 4.88's i know but i dont know what a damn carrier is

I just dropped a huge load of cash into gears and stuff on mine.

Parts~1100(at cost)
Labor~600("a good deal" )
xtra labor and parts-??

TOTAL COST-$2441

I did get the following:
-Detroit Locker
-2 sets 4.56 gears
-2(3) master install kits

I got swindled into:
-2 new axle shafts
-a new yoke

I've been dragging my feet too on getting regeared cause of the cost. But, I got 2 parts/labor quotes from local shops at $970 to $1000 and $1100.

One of the shops Jefe turned me on to charges $100 plus parts per axle, done in one day. But that's if you know how to take the axle off yourself.

if we have the ring a pinion and the locker and the instal kit, would that be cheaper?
