without doing any harm? i need 2 3156 RED bulbs but they are really hard to find. 3157 red bulbs are extremely easy to find. is it ok to use 3157's where 3156's are supposed to go, or should i just search more and try to find 3156 red bulbs? probably have to get them shipped from somewhere.

Yes, you can. I have a pair of 3157 superwhites in my reverse lights.

I'm planning to weld the two contacts together and make it brighter. I know, I know...the heat will melt the housing, but I'll be only using it for a few seconds so they don't even have enough time to heat up.

Here's a pic:

If you really want to do that, use solder. Solder a piece of metal to the contacts. They're way too small to weld, it'll just melt them instantly.

I got my vocabularies messed up. Sorry. I will solder the contacts together so both filaments together to make it brighter. Thanks for the correction, John. :)

ok great. i need them for my rear turn signals, i already have the 3157's in the brake part of the tails and they make it a solid red color when lit up, no amber. i also want bright backups but they were also 3156's, now i know i can go and get all 3157's and be ok. they are sold everywhere. thanks.
